Yara Thailand has reaffirmed its commitment to environmentally responsible business operations and workplace safety. Most recently, the company received the Yara Global Safety Award 2025 in recognition of its success in fostering the “Safe by Choice” organizational culture, underscoring its excellence in international safety and occupational health management standards.

With over 120 years of heritage since Yara’s establishment in Norway, the company has been importing and distributing premium-quality fertilizers in Thailand since 1973. Building upon this commitment, Yara officially established its fertilizer packing plant in 2016 at Poonpipat Warehouse, Bang Sai District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. The selection of this location was not based solely on available space, but also on its strategic potential, offering seamless connectivity to major logistics networks through both land and water transportation, supported by strong infrastructure that facilitates efficient operations and sustainable long-term growth.

Behind Yara’s success and steady growth is a vision centered on “Operational Excellence,” driven by the dedication of all employees and aligned business partners. Yara places the highest priority on employee safety alongside product quality.

Yara has significantly transformed its operations, moving from manual fertilizer packing in outdoor environments to 100% indoor operations. The company has also introduced robotics and automation systems to replace labor-intensive and high-risk tasks, particularly heavy lifting. This transformation not only reduces physical strain and improves operational accuracy, but also promotes long-term employee well-being. As a result, Yara has proudly maintained over seven consecutive years without a lost-time accident.

On the environmental front, Yara continues its sustainability mission through packaging innovation by introducing the newly designed “Renobag,” which reduces plastic usage by up to 50% compared to conventional bags. This initiative contributes tangibly to resource conservation and plastic waste reduction. This year, Yara aims to expand Renobag usage to cover 60% of all products, equivalent to reducing plastic consumption by up to 500 tons annually — comparable to the weight of 100 elephants.

In addition to improving operations within the packing facility, Yara has implemented a “Truck Appointment Booking System” to manage inbound and outbound truck traffic. This system helps reduce congestion, shorten waiting times, and improve logistics efficiency. Furthermore, Yara has continuously collaborated with Poonpipat Warehouse Bang Sai to improve internal traffic systems, minimizing risks and enhancing safety standards in areas with heavy truck traffic.

Another key factor behind this achievement is the strong collaboration between Yara and Poonpipat Warehouse as the site owner. Both parties have worked closely together to ensure safety management for everyone using the facility. Measures include mandatory reflective safety vests for all individuals entering the warehouse compound, clearly designated pedestrian walkways and bicycle lanes, and the installation of protective barriers near the port area, financially supported by Poonpipat. These initiatives aim to minimize risks and strengthen safety for all employees and workers.

Ms. Nantiya Pitakwongdeengam, Managing Director of Yara (Thailand) Co., Ltd., stated:
“Yara Thailand’s achievements in safety and environmental management reflect our commitment to creating a safe workplace that prioritizes employees while caring for the environment and society. This success has been continuously supported by Poonpipat Co., Ltd., the provider of our factory and warehouse facilities, which has promoted and supported Yara’s safety and environmental policies for more than a decade. This partnership has become an important driving force behind our sustainable business growth.

This approach aligns with Yara’s ‘Safe by Choice’ philosophy, which focuses on building a culture of safety through participation from everyone in the organization. To promote this concept globally, Yara presents the Yara Global Safety Award to countries demonstrating excellence in safety performance. Yara Thailand was honored to receive this prestigious award in the latest announcement last year.”

Mr. Thamrongrat Bisalputra, Managing Director of Poonpipat Co., Ltd., said:
“Yara’s achievement reflects the power of collaboration between organizations that share the same goal of creating a safe working environment and conducting sustainable business in the long term. It also highlights Poonpipat’s role as a business partner in developing infrastructure and workplace environments in line with international standards.

Poonpipat remains committed to developing warehouse projects that are more than just storage facilities, but strategic infrastructure that supports customers’ business growth while promoting safety and sustainability in every dimension.”
